About
With over six decades of experience, Bob Owens is a well known name in the industry. A trained farrier since 1946, Bob is well known at the track as a good “leg-man” and is considered one of the best at stopping speedy cutting. He is a licensed “A” track trainer in 8 different racing jurisdictions for both Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses. He is also familiar with Arabians and Appaloosas.
On the racetrack or in the show ring, his wins are too numerous to count. He has successfully shown english and western, jumpers, raced point to point, and driven fine harness horses before concentrating solely on stock horses.
When he isn’t training horses, he robs trains for charity with the Garnett Valley Gang as “Curly Bob.”
Bob offers a full range of training services, from starting colts to finished bridle horses, no matter what the breed. We also stand at stud Krogs Jazzy Doc, a 1998 Blue Roan Stallion, and always have quality young horses for sale.
Bob’s love of Quarter Horses started inthe early 1950’s when he took his savings and headed south of the border looking for that special horse. Out of the hundred he looked at there was only one he wanted. Bob purchased that big chestnut gelding, Tacoma Dink Echols, (Hippy P x Ed Echols) and as it turns out, one of the first Quarter Horses in British Columbia. Bob and “Dink” left their mark in the show ring over the next decade, winning (among other things) the CHSA Champion Stock Horse three times in a row. Bob also calf roped, did ranch work, and had countless hours of happy companionship with “Dink” until his death in 1975 from injuries sustained in an accident.
Since that time Bob has spent many hours mounted on good Quarter Horses for work and pleasure. Among his favourites are Cooper 62, Count The Pistols, Bold Reply, Clear The Track, and Shu Dat Cash. He now rides the stallion Krogs Jazzy Doc for the many things he does from horseback.
